Our Nylon Taffeta is a lightweight lining material.
This nylon fabric is typically used as a lining for jackets. Also used for quilting. Although
not as common, this fabric may be used as a lining for bags. Around since
the 1700s. A very fine weave. A tight weave. First woven out of Silk. The Montgolfier
brothers used Silk Taffeta for their balloons. The first manned balloon flight
was made in a Silk Taffeta balloon. Synthetic fiber forms of taffeta have been
used to simulate the structure of blood vessels. Taffeta is mostly woven out
of Nylon. Often used for linings. Makes a nice curtain. It is used to add strength
to mylar sails. This gives a mylar sail, a white look. Taffeta is like ripstop
nylon without the crosshatch pattern. Use wherever a strong lightweight, tightly
woven fabric is needed. Easy to sew on a home sewing machine. Nothing special
required. We recommend a Nylon or Polyester Thread, for Sewing.
Taffetta is one of the family of Nylon Fabrics. The others
are Cordura, Packcloth, Oxford
Cloth and Ripstop. For outdoor fabrics go to Outdoor Fabrics. To see all of our fabrics go to Fabrics.
70 denier Nylon Taffeta Fabric is the ideal diffused light photography
fabric. The White fabric is just opaque enough to difuse the light. But sheer
enough to pass most of the light. Use between the lights and the object being
photographed. Sometimes Grey fabric is used. Ripstop Nylon is also used to difuse
light. But many photographers prefer Taffeta because it does not have the crosshatch
pattern. Nylon Taffeta Fabric is also used for photography backdrop fabric.
Taffeta is also used for a lightweight lining material. This nylon
fabric is typically used as a lining for jackets and quilting. Although not
as common, this fabric may be used as a lining for bags as well. This fabric
is an extremely lightweight, flexible material that does have some water repellency.
Ideal for the lining of fine luggage. Works day planners and wallets. Also good
for making dust covers for delicate equipment. Extremely lightweight, packable
and waterproof. Use for very light weight tarps.Sometimes used for lightweight
clothing. Often used for tent flies. Most umbrellas are made from uncoated Taffeta.
(The stress on the fabric, in umbrella service, causes the coating to break down.)
Used, as an alternative to Ripstop, for kites.
Use a wet wipe to clean. Gentle machine wash if necessary. Hang to dry. Try and
avoid putting Taffeta
in the dryer!
