It's Easy and fun for the DIY person!

Make your own Roller Shades using our Roller Shade Kits, hardware and parts.

How to make a roller Shade - yourself! Making your own roller shades is a fun, no sew project. It is not a difficult project. Beacon Fabric & Notions has a Clutch style Roller Shade kit for windows up to 48". (Wider widths available. Contact Customer Service.) Our roller shade hardware is easy to use. You will have a quality, professional looking job, when you are finished.

Start by deciding where you want the shade to be installed, inside or outside of the window frame. Normally positioning it outside the frame will give you the most light-block. However, many times people install them inside the frame so their moldings will show. You are the one to determine the look you want. You are the one who determines the location of the Shade. Now take a measurement either inside the window frame side to side and then top to bottom or at the location you chose outside the window frame and the finished length. This is the estimate of the finished size of your shade and the amount of fabric required. Add at least 2 to the side width you measured and 8 of length to the top and bottom figure to make the job easier once you square up your fabric later in the project. We recommend adding our Iron on Lining Fabric or Black Out Fabric with Shade Laminating Adhesive to your fabric to give the fabric the body it needs to roll up and down evenly. The kit comes with directions that guide you step by step for installation. You will need a drill, screw driver and level. Included in the kit is the tubing, end brackets, Clutch mechanism and beaded chain. The tubing has double stick tape that your fabric is positioned on after you have prepared and squared your fabric to the correct size.
